Honesty and Social Cues

Honesty and Social Cues

Many neurodivergent people communicate very directly. They say what they think. And they mean what they say. And often, they assume that other people do the same.

A look.
A smile.
A conversation.
All of these can carry meaning.

For many neurotypical people, social communication may work differently.
A smile can simply be friendly – without meaning anything more.
A conversation can feel personal – without necessarily creating a deeper connection.
Not every social signal has one clear meaning.
And that can be confusing.
Especially when words are understood literally and sincerely – but are not always used in quite the same way by others.
From the outside, this may sometimes look like naivety.
But on the inside, it may be something very different: Trust in honesty.

Sometimes we only see the “naivety” –
but not the honesty behind it.
